Unlucky day for Elliott at CiCLE Classic

Malcolm Elliott suffered an unfortunate puncture in the final stages of the East Midlands CiCLE Classic this weekend.

The CiCLE Classic, which covers 100 miles, started in Oakham, took two circuits around Rutland Water and ended in Melton Mowbray.

As the race unfolded for a second circuit, a group of 15 riders led the front. By Sector 8, a group of four riders including Elliott made a valiant chase to join the lead group growing it to 19 cyclists.

However, luck was not on Malcolm’s side as he punctured only miles from the finish for the third time in the same spot. Malcolm eventually lost over a minute waiting for support.

Despite the problems, Elliott fought back to finish a very credible 13th. Speaking after the race he said, “The last few weeks I have felt shocking, I’ve not felt good on a bike at all yet the CiCLE Classic seems to bring out the best in me. I am pretty happy how I rode today.”
