Motorpoint’s Joshua Edmondson got off to a blistering start to the season by winning the 49th Eddie Soens Memorial Handicap Race at Aintree last weekend.
Aided by his teammates Steven Burke, Jonny McEvoy, Andy Tennant and last year’s winner Ed Clancy, Edmondson, who is still a junior, beat off competition from much senior rivals among the 165 strong field to set a new race record with a time of 1:36.33 (confirmed after a photo finish).
Says Joshua: “Over the final few laps, I got towed round by everyone (in the team). They got me into a good position and all I had to do was sprint from the last corner to the line by myself and that was it. I couldn’t have had better help in the race. It’s an excellent team to join and the bikes are perfect.”
