Motorpoint pro-cycling rider Ed Clancy MBE has taken gold at the first attempt in the Men’s Omnium on the final day of the World Track Championships in Copenhagen.
A new event for Clancy, who won gold at the 2008 Bejing Olympics in the Team Pursuit, the Omnium involves riders competing in five gruelling disciplines over one day.
The 25 year-old, who headlined the Motorpoint pro-cycling team launch last month in Derby, made up for getting silver in the team pursuit earlier in the Championships. The Omnium is expected to feature in the 2012 London Olympics. Since making his debut in 2005 in Los Angeles, Clancy has taken three world titles as part of Team GB.
