Motorpoint won the Halfords Tour Series 2010 last night in Woking with an incredible display of team tactics.
Just three points separated the top two teams but it was enough for Motorpoint to clinch the win.
In front of a massive crowd in Surrey, watching the race from any vantage point, Andy Tennant, Ian Bibby and Malcolm Elliott put three riders in the winning break of eight.
Working well together the lead group built up a one minute lead. Ed Clancy policed the peleton by holding back any chasers.
With two laps remaining Rapha Condor Sharp’s Dean Windsor turned up the heat and broke away from the lead group sprinting to the finish to take the individual win. But Malcolm Elliott was hot on his heels, out sprinting two Endura riders to finish second, giving Motorpoint the vital points to win the series.
Proving perseverance pays off despite a nasty crash involving Malcolm, Ed having a cold and several punctures during the series, the guys were over the moon.
For Malcolm, in what is likely to be in his last season, the feeling was one of immense relief. “It means a lot more to me than the other guys in the team as I am fully aware it was my last chance to win here. It’s a huge thing, so it’s going to take a while to sink in.” Boss Phil Griffiths described the night as “tremendous”.
Final point standings:
Motorpoint – 88 points
Endura – 85 points
Rapha Condor Sharp – 83 points
