Motorpoint’s Ian Bibby took second in the East Yorkshire Classic Road Race on Sunday in one of the toughest races of the series with steep climbs and plenty of rolling countryside.
Round 10 of the British Cycling Premier Calendar started wet but cleared 10 minutes before the start of the race leaving riders only to contend with damp roads.
A long neutralised section heading out of Beverley gave riders plenty of time to warm up for the 98 mile course.
For several miles a solid break didn’t form as attacks come and went, but the front runners were a good mix of all teams with Dave Clarke (Pendragon Le Col Colnago) leading all the way until his wheel punctured.
Clarke fought hard to come back in spectacular style to take the win. Bibby, having moved forward from the peleton was well placed to take second by just eight seconds. Jonny McEvoy took seventh place and James Sampson tenth.
Commenting on the race, Bibby said “Coming into the finish, I got the sprint but it is disappointing. It was a proper tough course with some windy sections.”
