Elliott ready for Rutland’s CiCLE Classic

Cycling legend Malcolm Elliott will be leading the charge this Sunday at the epic CiCLE Classic in Rutland for the Motorpoint Pro-Cycling team.

Malcolm, 48, is looking to repeat his winning performance of 2007 in what is arguably the best one-day day race in the UK.

Starting in Oakham and ending in Melton Mowbray the 105-mile race takes the 180 riders through some of the most picturesque countryside in the East Midlands as the course winds itself across farm tracks, fields and dirt roads.

This year, organisers have made the course more difficult by adding an extra six miles to the race including a further ascent of the Cold Overtonberg.

Speaking ahead of the race Malcolm said: “The race has a great atmosphere with plenty of communities coming out to watch. It’s a tough course, with the ever present danger of punctures and crashes – even bad weather can make mud clog up bikes and gears. You have to be quick witted, but it’s certainly a brilliant course to ride”
