Keith Lambert, team manager of the Motorpoint pro-cycling team isn’t ruling out Ed Clancy winning the Elite Series.
After strong performances in Stafford, Colne and then Blackburn, the Olympic gold medal winner is nicely placed in second behind Endura’s Ian Wilkinson with three races to go.
“We’re riding with a lot of confidence at the moment,” says Keith. “We had a bit of a lull after the Tour Series but we’re back up to speed again. You can see it in our performances in the Elite Series of late, and of course the Elite National Criterium Championships.
“We actually got off to a bad start in Blackburn on Wednesday night. After the first few laps I was thinking the night was going to be a disaster. But credit to the boys, they stuck at their job, and inspite of the weather and a very technical course, we ended up with four in the top seven. You couldn’t’ ask for more effort.
“Malc’s a great example of the spirit in the team. He was really struggling at the start of the race but like the good pro that he is, he came through the field to finish strongly.”
Adds Keith: “Although Wilkinson is the clear favourite in the Elite Series, you wouldn’t bet against Ed catching him, given the form he’s in. We’ll have to see what happens, starting in York on Sunday.”
