Clancy comes close in Colne

Motorpoint’s Ed Clancy took third place at the Colne Grand Prix in the closest finish yet of the National Circuit Championship.

To a crowd of thousands lining the streets of Colne town centre, the race became an all out duel between Motorpoint and Rapha Condor Sharp.

A break got away early with three riders from the three main teams taking the lead and pulling away from the main peleton. At that point the race winner looked like a dead cert.

Whilst Ed and Dean Downing sat up front, bit by bit the attacks began and by the final bell the bunch had nearly caught the leaders making it anybody’s guess of the winner.

Fearing the worst, Downing threw his bike into the final corner to win, with Ian Wilkinson of Endura a tyre length ahead of Clancy to take second.

Overall it was a good night for Motorpoint, with Pete Williams finishing in fifth, Jonny McEvoy in sixth and Malcolm Elliott in ninth.  Photo courtesy of Cheryl King at www.ckingimages.com
