Bitter Scottish weather does little to dampen Motorpoint’s spirit

Motorpoint took three out of the top ten positions at the Tour of Doonhame in Scotland this weekend.

The traditional three-day Easter weekender, was moved from Girvan this year to a new location of Dumfries giving riders a new 200 mile course to contend with.

On paper, the course looked less gruelling however the bitter Scottish weather with driving winds and pounding rain made for tough racing.

Stage One on Saturday was 75 miles from Dumfries to Dumfries in which Ian Bibby won the King of Mountain Jersey – following a hard day of climbs.

The pace was fast, however bad weather led to several crashes including a pile-up of 12 riders involving Motorpoint’s Andy Tennant who had to withdraw following a shoulder injury.

Stage Two on Easter Sunday was a gruelling 96 miles from Dumfries to Castle Douglas and saw decreased numbers start following Saturday’s crashes.

Better weather meant the pace was fierce averaging 27 mph seeing a series of sprints and breaks as riders battled for points. Day Two would see a sprint finish involving several Motorpoint riders, ending with Jonny McEvoy placing second and Malcolm Elliott third.

Stage Three on Easter Monday lasted 81 miles in very wet and windy conditions with a warning of floods. Ian Bibby took second place and Malcolm Elliott sixth. Pete Williams won the Hot Spot sprint at Moniaive.

Overall, the weekend was of great success for Motorpoint. Pete Williams took third position overall, Jonny McEvoy placed sixth and Malcolm Elliott came third. As a team, Motorpoint finished a very impressive second.
